May 31st, 2008 · No Comments

Reverse Turkey was launched in October 2007 as a pet project for a struggling IT contractor! Well, depending on your measure of success, a major milestone has occurred this week! Reverse Turkey has just clicked over 10,000 page views.  That’s right 10,000.

Thanks to Reverse Turkey readers for helping with this small success.

Radar detectors…..more the norm than under cover

May 9th, 2008 · No Comments

An article appeared this evening claiming that a clandestine supplier of illegal radar detection equipment had been raided in NSW, Australia. Selling the radar equipment over the internet, the big claim from the police was that they found information on a computer from the alleged “master criminal” and a “radar as well”.

Funny thing is its well known that luxury car dealers in Australia supply and install factory fitted radar equipment in their vehicles. I know a guy who had one installed after purchasing an AMG from a registered dealer in Brisbane, Qld. It was installed under the banner of “factory”!

Very interesting!!

Is the public service its own worst enemy?

May 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

I stumbled on this conference event occurring soon and I had to just write about it.

The Government Procurement 2008 Conference in Canberra Australia in July is a forum for public servants on how to better spend tax payers money (for the benefit of this article emphasise the word “better”).Could this FAT CAT get a job in the public service?

What I found bizarre was not necessarily the topics to be discussed at the conference, more the way the event was being marketed. Let me extract some messages for you:

“How will you be spending your billions in procurement this year? Will you plan your spend or just throw it away?” - Turkey says - so that reads public servants throw away hard working Australian tax payers money each year, cos….they can’t be bothered, incompetent or they just don’t care. Are we ok with this?

“Walk away with skill for streamlining procurement processes for achieving “value for money” outcomes.” - Turkey says - procurement is not a new phenomenon, it’s been around for at least the last 100 years and we are now trying to teach people skills around value for money. They don’t shop around for the best prices when they are spending their own money? So why is it different when they go to work?

“Every year, government procurement is a $26 billion business; money which has to be spent transparently because of the general public being mindful of government spend.” Turkey says - so this suggests that the right of the general public to know how Government is spending money is a new thing? What I don’t get is that the public service is full of the general public….you know….people! People who pay taxes! So why when they go to work they forget that the general public (people like them) have a right to know?

This is just another clear message that the public service has again lost its way! Forgot what its there to do inside the massive beuracracy and invidualistic power plays that occur between ladder climbing public servant parasites. This label doesn’t necessarily fit all public servants, but the higher you go the more you find the “power and the glory” is what drives these people…..not the public….you know the “customer” who they serve!

Unbelievable but so very very real!

Man sniffs the chair of a female co-worker : mad / stupid / misunderstood?

April 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Could this be the most bizarre story you’ll ever read…..I got to say its up there with the best!

WEST Australian Liberal leader Troy Buswell broke down in tears yesterday after admitting he sniffed the chair of a female staffer after a meeting in his office in late 2005, but he refused to stand down over his extraordinary behaviour.

Mr Buswell agreed that his actions were inappropriate and offensive, but he said he had strong support from his colleagues to remain leader.

He said it was up to voters to decide if he was fit to be premier but he had now modified his behaviour.

Just 24 hours after 13 times labelling the chair sniffing an “unsubstantiated, anonymous rumour” which he would not comment on, Mr Buswell finally admitted he sniffed the woman’s chair seat after she got up so he could get a laugh from other staff.
